The procedure of processing applications for children is very similar to the one which is for adults. All applicants who are under 18 need an approval from their parent/ legal guardian in order to enroll the Nexus card program.
Minors can be enrolled in the NEXUS program even if their parents or legal guardians are not members.
In cases where only one parent / legal guardian that is attending, the minor has to present one of the following:
• The absent parent or legal guardian must sign a letter of permission, agreeing to the minor's enrolment in the program.
• In such cases, where only one parent is recorded on the minor's birth certificate, the parent or legal guardian does not require a letter of permission.
• In cases of shared custody, the parent or guardian must provide an official evidence indicating the custody agreement.
• The parent or guardian must provide evidence that there are no non-removal clauses and that the minor can leave Canada.
If the minor attends the interview with a person other than the parent or legal guardian, both parents or legal guardians must submit letter(s) of permission in addition to the other requirements.
